The bottleneck shouldn't be as bad on the RTX 3060 model. Battery life is okay, and it is 5.5lbs, so nothing special in either of those aspects. somepersonskid·88d Looks like the legion 5 with the GTX 1660 Ti is all sold out for now, but the Legion 5 with a GTX 1650 Ti with 8 gigs of ram is available for $1000. Question: should I spend the extra $400 for 16 gigs of Ram on this model? - The type of gaming I do is not very demanding I think. Mostly Steam games and Diablo 2, and the hardest I run my computer is with AutoCad. Spec wise I really don't need a whole lot but wpuld prefer some sort of dedicated graphics card. Pretty much only play Runescape and occasional random steam or Gamepass/Windows game, never really get into tripple A games. So, in the scenario that you want to try VR, you could spend more for the Eluktronics MAG-15, which has a much stronger CPU and GPU, but is a bit heavier. carlko20·178d That one looks like it might be a good fit. I was wondering if you might be able to help me narrow my options a bit -- I have zero experience with building or purchasing gaming laptops. My current one was a gift from almost a decade ago, and I'm looking to buy a replacement for it in the next week or two. I have a budget of around 1500, but I'm willing to bump up to no more than 2000 if the difference would be huge in terms of gaming performance. Weight and battery life aren't huge concerns, since this will basically be used as a desktop that I can move around the house at will and occasionally take to a friends house. So it'll rarely be used without being plugged in and set on a table (I've already considered portable desktops, but I think I'd prefer the flexibility of a laptop). I play a little bit of everything, so I'm looking to run anything from pixel indie games to the latest and greatest AAA titles, all preferably at max graphics settings and steady framerate. I'd also like something that likely won't have any cooling issues, since it'll probably be used for very long stretches of time. Edit: I noticed some of the options have power ports located in the center right, and I'm wondering if this is an inconvenience to having a mouse placed close on the right of the laptop, or if maybe some of the power cord heads are angled to make that less of an issue. Otherwise, you could wait for better RTX 3000 laptops to come into stock. They are often posted on the subreddit. If you go down that route, I would aim for an RTX 3070. Ive been reading reviews incessantly, but the bulk of the material Ive found is on clickbaity sites devoid of real world benchmarks. My budget is essentially unlimited I want the best performance currently available. Id prefer something that is aesthetically more conventional, but well built with good materials. Double screens and gimmicks arent a priority or preference. That being said, if the best option has to be an RGBd out the ying-yang space ship, so be it. Ill be primarily running HDMI 2.1 to my LG C9 (if this is a bad idea, let me know) in conjunction with a wireless KB/M for gaming purposes, but not exclusively so a pretty, high performance screen and a nicely tactile keyboard would be nice. From what Ive read, smooth 4K gaming on a laptop form factor is still out of reach; is 1440p viable/worth pursuing for gaming and general use? There are only a couple of HDMI 2.1 laptops out there, so that immediately limits your options. If you want the most powerful device, I'd say that the Razer Blade Pro 17 is the way to go. It has great build quality with its CNC aluminum chassis. You get a 8-core i7-10875H processor, RTX 3080 100W, 32 GB RAM, a 1 TB SSD, and a 1080p 17.3" 360Hz IPS display. It should be decent for AAA titles at high-max settings 1440p on an external monitor. The RTX 3060 version is on my list. It is still powerful enough for all games at max settings 1080p, so I wouldn't worry about that. It depends on what country you're located in, but there are newer devices from Dell and Lenovo coming out. I'm not sure when they will be readily available, but they will eventually hit the market. The AMD version you were looking at originally and the Intel version at Best Buy will perform the same in games. The AMD processor is stronger than the Intel processor, but in games, it does not make a difference. You will only really tell a difference in very CPU heavy tasks like video editing. I had a request, if you could help me understand, Id like to game, story based ones like Red Dead, Cyberpunk, Ghost of Tsushima and whatever coming up in the next 2-3years plus also COD warzone on game nights with the Boys, be able to stream Netflix, Hulu on high quality laptop screen. Thank you. legos45·143d Hi, if performance is the biggest concern, I would look specifically for a device with a high wattage GPU. RTX 3080 laptops don't really offer the best value, which is why I would recommend going with a high wattage RTX 3070. So, I would recommend considering the Eluktronics Mech-15 G3, MSI GE66 Raider, or even the new Alienware M15 R5, which has the highest wattage RTX 3070 out there at 140W. jamz717·134d Thank you so much. It seems like 11th gen Intel will have a decent bump in performance, but I am not sure yet. There's not much information out there yet. There really isn't any laptop that is more upgradable than others... CPUs and GPUs are rarely upgradable. The only things you can really upgrade is RAM and storage. jamz717·134d Hmmm...thank you, so I think Ill try the raider or the Alienware. Just I dont want to lose out on the games of the future cause it isnt upgradable. Maybe a gaming rig would be a better choice then. I understand that a lot of gaming laptops have a poor battery life, so is it possible to, say, put a laptop like this at 60hz (1080p) and take actions like this to try to extend battery life for normal use? I'm really interested in the MSI GL65 Leopard as it basically fits my requirements at a very reasonable price, but I wanted to get some feedback before i purchased. For now, my primary use would be gaming, and some work (outlook, word, excel, basic stuff) The games I play are admittedly not hugely demanding games: Tekken 7 (Which doesn't even require more than 60fps), Guilty Gear Stive and ideally out to future releases like Tekken 8 (e.g. I'd like for the machine to have some longevity). But I'd also be excited to have something that can play new games at high settings. Or at least not be outpaced entirely in 2 years. My priority was to find something at 144hz with 16gb and a half decent GPU. I'd like to stay under 1,500, but it's not absolutely required, but not over 1700. I'd like for the laptop to be able to play current gen and next gen fighters, but i'm not going to put it to the biggest graphics tests out there. Battery life and weight are not big factors for me.
