What is the difference between cognitive dissonance theory and self

Cognitive dissonance describes a situation where a person feels discomfort due to conflicting ideals, beliefs, attitudes or behaviour while self-perception theory claims people develop attitudes and opinions by observing their own behaviour and drawing conclusions from them.

What is self

Self-perception theory posits that people determine their attitudes and preferences by interpreting the meaning of their own behavior. Critcher and Gilovich looked at whether people also rely on the unobservable behavior that is their mindwandering when making inferences about their attitudes and preferences.

Who proposed the self

According to self-perception theory, when people are unsure of their own attitudes, one way to infer them is by looking at their behaviors. Daryl Bem proposed self-perception theory in 1967 when he argued that people sometimes analyze their own behavior in the same fashion as they would analyze someone else's behavior.

Which of the following is a way to resolve cognitive dissonance quizlet?

One way to resolve this discomfort is to shift one's attitudes in line with one's behavior. In the decision making process, when does dissonance occur? subtly compelling people to behave in a manner that is inconsistent with their beliefs in order to elicit dissonance, and therefore a change in their original views.
