Darn good yarn sari skirt review năm 2024

I was given a yarn of the month subscription as a (very thoughtful) gift. The company pitches this as a chance to receive a different yarn every month along with a free gift. I'm now in the fifth month and have received the same yarn every month in a (slightly) different colour way each time. The 'gifts' barely make it to Christmas cracker quality. This month was a plastic ring in the shape of a peacock? Phoenix? Nothing to do with crafts and your average 10 year old would find it challenging to raise enthusiasm for it.

But what is worse is when I raised the question of the identical (slight colour variation aside) yarns being sent every month I got such a defensive email from the company. They didn't address the fact that the yarns were the same, ignored the free gift criticism and suggested that if I were to warn friends off this purchase I should refer them instead to their company! Yeah right, because I'm that stupid! Anyway, until they get better at what they claim to be doing, I'd steer clear. Meanwhile my kind friend has cancelled my subscription at my request.

Mixed experience

Bought a pack of 3 skirts - quality good but 2 of them are in hideous colours. Then I decided to try their recycled yarn - big mistake! Yarn okay but such a tiny amount all I can make from it is a headband and the knitting needles that came as my 'mystery gift' are rubbish - they're supposed to be purple but within knitting under 100 stitches, the paint has worn off leaving plain wood.

These skirts spark Joy!

Received 3 wrap skirts all were in the colours I specified and the colours and patterns were well matched and interesting. Really feel like I got 6 skirts as I love the reverses just as much. Material was mainly silk or else nice satiny acrylic. A few little holes had been skilfully patched with a mirrored sequin which did not detract from the overall appearance of any skirt. I feel Darn Good delivered on its mission to recycle textiles and benefit workers in India. I look forward to wearing these colourful skirts joyfully and mindfully in the upcoming Australian summertime.

Expensive and disappointing service

After a long conversation I thought I'd give the shirts a try, but with the dollar conversion they became very expensive. When they arrived they were far too big and when I wrote to them to ask about exchange was advised as they were so cheap no exchange possible, maybe I could gift them. I ordered size 14 and received size 22. I can't afford to give away $200 worth of clothing so incredibly disappointed. The skirts look nice, just far too big. Will not buy again.

Disappointing

I ordered the Spice Market in Junior size (several inches larger than my waist size but a wrap has lots of overlap, right?) in the ankle length and paid $8.99 for shipping. I received a tea length wrap skirt with less than a handswith of overlap (I’m 5’ 8” with a 31” waist and medium sized hands). One fabric was brown with a repeating yellow daisy pattern. The other was blue and silvery grey twining geometric pasternak. Pretty, but hardly spice coloured and didn’t complement the other fabric at all. The site says you have 60 days you return the skirt. I completed the returns process, including a required photo. The final screen told me to return it within 14 days. Then I received an email telling me they would let me know whether my rrequest would be approved or rejected.

Not very pleased, at all 🙁

I was very excited to be purchasing a refurbished silk sari from artisans. Nope. Refurbished is one thing, stains and snags and holes is something else entirely Also, as someone who sews, I am very saddened by the quality of the work. The seams are sloppy, the stitching is sloppy, threads hanging, folds are wadded and bunches in places. Very little care or pride was taken when this skirt was sewn. I do feel that my choice of anything but yellow was considered and the material and patterns are nice. The fabric is NOT sari silk, though. One side is a polyester blend and the other a thin , loosely woven cotton. I’ll be purchasing my next sari somewhere else. 🙁

They do not send what is paid for....

I received a gift subscription for DGY. The initial boxes were to include yarn, a pattern and a tool of some sort- I received a crochet hook and another time a button to use with one of the patterns for that particular month. Eventually, the delivery changed to no added tool. Then the delivery changed to no pattern but a QR code was included to access the pattern data base. EVERY time I've tried to use the code to allow me to download a pattern to use for my monthly yarn, I receive a message that the coupon code is not valid. I appreciate what seems to be the societal intent of this company, but they are not delivering what was agreed upon when the year subscription was purchased. I gave two stars because some of the yarn is quite nice but the company has not delivered what they promised.

Very disappointing

Very disappointing. I ordered the 3+2 ankle length skirts. None of them were the bright colors depicted on the website. The workmanship was very poor. The colors were disappointing. I received really 3 pastels, which I do not wear. The one skirt that I like is completely see through and had runs in the fabric. I will not order ever again.

Wobbly start, happily resolved

I ordered the three skirt bundle, two maxi, one mini and requested my colour preferences. The skirts took some time to arrive and I was pleased with the maxis, beautiful fabrics but the mini was disappointing. I noticed a really unpleasant odour from them when I took them out of the packaging to try them on and wanted to wash my hands after handling them. I decided to wash them all and when wet and hung on the line to dry, I could see the mini was full of snags. I emailed them to complain and was impressed with their response, keep the damaged one and they’d send a fee replacement. I was asked to choose length and colour. The replacement arrived and is really lovely. I love wearing the skirts and feel they’re unique so although the first bundle was smelly and damaged, I can’t fault the customer service! All’s well that ends well.

I've been a subscriber for over a year

I've been a subscriber for over a year. I love their yarns and skirts and I've been happy to support their mission. However....

In January a 5 pack of skirts didn't arrive. I had to escalate it to PayPal to get a replacement because they kept fobbing me off

They have banned me from their Facebook groups for discussing that their black Friday "sale" wasn't really a sale, because they had increased prices the day before. More people had realised of this, but they don't like any negative feedback. I know somebody who has also gone through something similar and she had been ghosted by the company.

They can't tell me which rules I have broken to be banned and they can't reinstate me either. My subscription is useless if I can't access the Facebook group, to be honest.

Very disappointing considering they are supposed to "start at love". It looks like they have more than enough customers and can afford to lose a few. I'm cancelling my subscription with all the sadness of my heart, but I don't like being used.

I ordered the 3 ply hemp yarn

I ordered the 3 ply hemp yarn. It was moldy and smelled moldy. I tried everything to get rid of the mold but it was so embedded. I wrote to the company and got some story about how the monsoons affect the yarn and they have a process for getting rid of the musty smell. The yarn was dark with mold and I was coughing trying to work with it. I ended up throwing it away. It's not ok to sell moldy products no matter what the story of the company. 38 dollars for two things of yarn that are now trash. Honestly from reading other reviews online I am not the first customer to get scammed by an inferior or damaged product from them. They are selling a story not actually selling quality products. There are reputable companies selling fair trade products that are not moldy and certified fair trade, support those businesses instead.

Lovely skirts! Very happy

Excellent customer service, quick efficient delivery and quality skirts. I ordered the ‘5 for 3’ offer and I’m very happy with length, size, quality and colour (just asked for a variety). Because they are reversible they are very versatile. Highly recommended

Bad quality skirts at high price.

Ordered 5 of the sari wrap skirts using the buy 2 get 3 free special. Took a gamble on colours and wasn’t disappointed. However, one of the skirts had stains visible through the packaging and all of the skirts have flaws in the quality of the sewing.

Every skirt has hanging bits of overlocking where the fabric was missed leaving frayed edges, the stitching to join panels of fabric together within the skirt is wonky and bulky, the edges of the material were sewed and not pressed so that seam is bulky and sticks up. Top stitching is no where near the edge, the holes created for the ties for the skirt vary hugely and some threaten to tear through the waistband of the skirt.

It seems like no care was taken in the making of these skirts. The stitches visible are long and so it looks like these skirts were thrown together as quickly as possible and sent to shipping with little worry of quality or consistency.

I wouldn’t order from this company again and would rather deconstruct the skirts and use the silk for another project or just create identical skirts for myself now that I know how they are made. For a total of AU$224, the skirts are nowhere near the quality they needed to be at roughly $45 each.

Darn good! I am so over the moon excited for my new skirts! Three full length double layered saris for 600 is an amazing price! I love the no waste concept of this business and the surprise of not knowing exactly how your skirts will look. I can not wait to buy more skirts in the future.

My kantha scarf is breathtakingly, heartwarming-ly beautiful! It will soon be the basis of a new fiber art creation by me! Thank you again and again, DGY!!!

How do you wash a sari wrap skirt?

Your Sari Wrap Skirt can be machine washed! Place your skirt in a mesh bag, wash on a cold gentle cycle, and dry on low to medium heat. To avoid wrinkles, promptly remove from the dyer and place on a hanger. If ironing is needed, you may iron your skirt on a cool setting.
