They’ve been back for a while but I’m late to the party (what else is new?). And this time, Peripera is boasting an even stronger and longer-lasting formula than ever. Although a few of their tints are still around, I believe their Ink Velvet tints have managed to garner all the attention for the time being from tint enthusiasts. Curious to get my hands on some, I deliberated long and hard before settling with the four shades you see below. And trust me, it was painfully difficult to narrow down the colors- I think the only reason I only have these is because they are constantly out of stock!

To be honest, I like a bit of color on my lips but I’ve been cursed with extremely dry lips. I’ve tried everything from lip scrubs, balms, overnight treatments- to the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask that everyone seems to love but my lips are resistant to retaining moisture. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, if you have moist lips, know that I’m very jealous.

Most lip products tend to accentuate my dry cracked lips. They also settle into the cracks which is never appealing. Therefore I have a difficult time with lip products. I have a few that I like, but nothing I would consider reliable (nice color payoff, long-lasting and non-drying).

Lucky for me, these tints are a tad bit moisturizing, long-lasting and fabulously affordable.

The shades from left to right are No. 4 Wow Pink, No.14 Rose Pink, No. 2 So Grapefruit, and No. 4 Selfie Orange Brown. Please note that two are Ink Velvet and two are Ink Airy Velvet. Ink Velvet tints are contained in opaque bottles and Ink Airy Velvet tints are in frosted glass bottles.

I’m sure a lot of readers might already be familiar with the products but I figured a little introduction wouldn’t hurt in case there are some who might be joining the game a bit late (like me).

A lot of users associate the texture of these tints to velvety mousse and I have to agree. They glide on smoothly and give your lips incredible vividness yet there’s a softness to the finish that makes it appear very weightless on the lips. They don’t look heavy, if that makes any sense. While they are moisturizing on the lips they have a semi-matte finish which is what I usually seek in lip products. They’re creamy yet light on the lips. Peripera boasts dozens of shades, offering a range of light to dark colors suitable for different seasons. There’s literally something for everyone.

These are tiny and quite adorable. You can easily throw them in a makeup pouch or your purse and they’ll be fine.

I read a review that the applicators differ in their shapes but after I took a look at mine, I noticed they were all alike. I couldn’t find any information about the applicators being different either. Below is a screen grab directly from peripera’s website regarding the Ink Airy Velvet’s applicator. There wasn’t one for the Ink Velvet.

The applicators are the same hence I only felt the need to photograph it once. The tip of the applicator is slightly slanted, although I failed to capture it. You’ll just have to take my word for it.

While I use the applicator to dot the product onto my lips, I usually use my finger to get the color to fill out. The colors are pretty intense and pigmented so I never go over them more than once. I made the mistake of applying too much when I first tried them out so I ended up blotting endlessly. Personally I find less is actually better because the colors are extremely pigmented. I do re-touch my lips if I wear Selfie-Orange Brown though because it’s the only one that wears off quickly.

While I’ve been singing praises of the tints, I’ll let you in on one downside, they transfer and smudge. Some of the color will also eventually wear off throughout the day through eating, drinking and wiping but it will leave behind a stain. However that stain won’t be anything like your original color. For me, Wow Pink and So Grapefruit were the most intense and hardest to wash off. Currently the stains look nearly identical, with So Grapefruit leaning a tad bit more magenta while the other one is a lighter pink, although not by much. Selfie Orange Brown is hardly visible and Rose Pink is a very muted pink.

One thing I’m happy to share is none of these tints settle into the cracks of my lips which is shocking because that was a constant problem I had. If I give them enough time to settle before moving on, I find that they are less likely to transfer but don’t be surprised if the colors don’t stay put.

Let’s discuss the difference with Ink Velvet and Ink Airy Velvet. As the name implies, Ink Airy Velvet is lighter. It’s described as “weightless” by Peripera and I have to agree that it feels as if there’s nothing on your lips. Peripera Ink Velvet and Ink Airy Velvet do have some distinguishing factors.

• Color and Pigmentation – As for color and pigmentation, Ink Velvet is more intense.
• Texture – Both glide on like mousse but Ink Airy Velvet is weightless on the lips. As the name implies, it’s light as air.
• Durability – Ink Velvet wins this round. A test of the product shows that it outlasts vigorous wiping with tissues, wet wipes, water and even oil-based makeup remover. However the stain won’t resemble its original color.
• Packaging – Ink Velvet tints come in opaque bottles while Ink Airy Velvet tints are contained in frosted glass bottles.
• Fragrance – Ink Velvet smells like fruity candy and Ink Airy Velvet carries a more synthetic smell but it doesn’t bother me much. Whether they taste good or not, you’ll have to let me know because I’m not going to attempt that, not even for the sake of this review.

Ink Velvet No. 4 Wow Pink is an intense pink, it’s bright and gives your makeup a pop of color. It’s more a cherry red kind of pink.

Ink Airy Velvet No. 14 Rose Pink is a more subdued pink and I like this one the best because I feel like it compliments my makeup more.

Ink Velvet No. 2 So Grapefruit is a bright red with a tinge of orange in the mix. It is one of Peripera’s best selling colors however I find it a bit too vibrant for my taste. However if you like bold colors, this one is perfect if you want your lips to be the center of attention.

Ink Airy Velvet No. 2 Selfie Orange Brown is described by Peripera as “An orange MLBB that is neither orange nor brown in a profound imagination”.

For the sake of the review, I left these on a little past 5 minutes and proceeded to wiping them with some tissue. I wiped a bit vigorously and this is the result it yielded. You might notice the difference in the quality of the two photos, that’s because they were photographed with two different cameras.

These are originally priced at 9,000KRW but can be found cheaper if you wait for sales or happen to catch them at the right time. I was able to get them each for 4,500-6,500KRW.

I think these tints work wonderfully. While I like Rose Pink the best, I find that all four colors are great. True to their claims, Ink Velvet has a stronger staining power compared to Ink Airy Velvet. Both offer a wide range of colors, and there’s definitely something for everyone. And in some cases, there might be too many that you might just want to have them all. I started off with a list of 12 that I wanted and then realized I was out of my mind and settled with four. It is that hard though to narrow them down. If your budget permits, I say go for it! The color payoff is amazing. It’s intense and pigmented and I find that a little goes a long way.

Is Ink Airy Velvet transfer

It really does feel velvety and doesn't feel drying like most matte liquid lip colors. It truly feels amazing on and you can forget you're wearing a lip color once it dries down. However, it does not last and is not transfer-proof.
