This article explains how to add BCC recipients to an email using Yahoo Mail in a web browser.

How to BCC Recipients to a Message in Yahoo Mail

BCC stands for blind carbon copy. Within the context of an email, a person who is BCC'd sees the message, but no other recipient sees their name. You can use the BCC function to send emails to multiple people without them knowing who else is receiving the message.

Email two or more contacts at the same time "blindly" using the BCC feature in your Yahoo Mail account.

  1. Log in to your Yahoo Mail account and select the Compose button in the upper-left corner to open a new email message window.

  2. Select CC/BCC on the right end of the To field. A CC field and a BCC field are added below the To field.

In the Yahoo Mail mobile app, open the CC/BCC fields by tapping To. In Yahoo Mail Basic, the BCC field is visible while composing a message.

  3. Select the BCC field and enter the recipient's email address. Alternatively, choose BCC to open a contact search window to add addresses from your Yahoo Mail address book. Select the check box for each contact you want to include and then choose Done.

Your message must have at least one addressee in the To field. If you want no recipient to be visible, enter your Yahoo Mail address.

  4. Compose the email message as usual and select Send. All of the recipients in the BCC field receive a copy of the message but can't see the information of the other recipients.

Even if a recipient selects Reply All to reply to the message, the reply is only sent to you.

Why Use BCC?

The BCC function protects the privacy of email recipients. For example, when you send a message about an address change, you may want everyone to know, but everyone in your contacts may not know each other. If sending something more personal, such as an invitation to a party, send individual messages. Using templates can make the process go faster.

Including too many addresses in the BCC field can get your email marked as spam on the other end, which means people may never see your mail.

Sending an email to multiple recipients is a time-saving convenience that many email clients offer their users, and Yahoo Mail is no exception. Yahoo enables you to add multiple recipients in two different locations when composing an email: the "CC" and "BCC" fields. While the "CC" field enables all recipients to see who else is receiving an email, the "BCC" field enables you to hide a specific recipient so the other recipients do not know he or she received the message. Yahoo does not disclose the maximum amount of recipients you can add to a message due to security concerns.

Step 1

Compose a new email, or reply to an email from within your Yahoo Mail account.

Step 2

Click the "CC" or "BCC" buttons to the right of the "To" field, depending on your needs. A "CC" or "BCC" field will appear underneath the "To" field.

Step 3

Enter each email address you want to receive the message. There is no need to separate the addresses by commas, as Yahoo separates each email for you automatically.

Step 4

Compose your email as normal, and click "Send" to send your message to multiple recipients. Depending on the number of recipients, Yahoo may require you to fill out a CAPTCHA form to send your email.

Tips

  • You can also use the "Add Recipients" icon, located to the right of each field as a "+" shaped icon, to select contacts from your contact list.
  • Yahoo recommends its users enroll in Yahoo Groups if they find themselves sending emails to a large number of recipients daily.

Warnings

  • If your email contains too many recipients, Yahoo will not send it. You will need to delete some recipients to successfully send the message.
