What must be configured on a new Wi

To set up your wireless network, begin by signing in to your Google Fiber account and navigating to your router's device configuration.

If you had an in-home installation, your Installation Specialist helped you configure your home Wi-Fi network as part of the Google Fiber installation service. You can change your Wi-Fi network configuration anytime you want. In the unlikely event that you have to set up your Fiber network on your own, you can do so with the instructions below.

CONFIGURE YOUR WI-FI

Here's how to configure your Wi-Fi network:

  1. Sign in to Fiber using the email and password you use for your Fiber account.

  2. Select Network from the navigation menu.

What must be configured on a new Wi

  1. Enter or change the name (also known as the SSID) of your wireless network in the Network name field.

The SSID is case-sensitive and must be 8 to 32 characters long. Be sure to use only letters and numbers—don't use spaces or special characters, such as !, @, #, $, ?, *, etc. If your SSID is outside of this character limit, or if there is an accidental space at the beginning or end of your network name, you may have connection issues.

By default, when your Wi-Fi network is configured and its access points are enabled, it broadcasts its SSID. That means that the network name appears in the list of available networks when anyone tries to connect a wireless device in your home or nearby. (If you want to hide the presence of your wireless network, you can disable SSID broadcasting.)

Your Wi-Fi network is configured to use both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radio frequencies with the same network name. If you want a different name for each frequency, you can configure your network names.

  1. If Wi-Fi network is set to Off, change it to On. The Wi-Fi network must be set to On to change the Wi-Fi password.

If you want to disable all Wi-Fi access points on your network and prevent wireless devices from connecting, change Wi-Fi network to Off.

  2. If Wi-Fi network is set to On, enter a unique password for your network in the Wi-Fi password field.

Your wireless network is configured to be protected by WPA2 encryption to provide the highest level of security and privacy. Your Wi-Fi password is case-sensitive and should be between 8 and 63 characters. Like the wireless network name (SSID), if your password is outside of this character limit, or if there is an accidental space at the beginning or end, you may have connection issues.

The characters you type appear as dots to keep your password private. If you want to see characters as you type, click Show. We recommend writing down your Wi-Fi network name and password and keeping it in an easy-to-remember place.

  3. Click Apply.

The new settings take effect immediately. If the device you are using is connected wirelessly to your Fiber network, you must reconnect using the new network name and/or password.

When you enable your Wi-Fi network, Wi-Fi is enabled in the Network Box (or wireless router) and in any TV Boxes for which Wi-Fi radio is set to Auto or On. Wi-Fi radios remain disabled in TV Boxes for which Wi-Fi radio is set to Off.

If you consider yourself to be an advanced network user, you may want to review the advanced settings for more network options.

If you change your network name or password, you will need to reconnect any device connected wirelessly with the new name and/or password after you apply the changes.

  • You can configure your network from a device with a different Internet connection.

  • You can configure your network from a device connected to the Network Box with an Ethernet cable.

  • If you are configuring your network from a device that is connected wirelessly to your Fiber network, you will need to reconnect using the new network name and password after applying the change.

TV Box access points

Your Network Box is the main Wi-Fi access point in your network. If you have Google Fiber TV, you can use individual TV Boxes as Wi-Fi access points.

TV Box access points are disabled by default, but you can individually set them to Auto or On if you want to extend your network range.

Connect to the Fiber Setup Wi-Fi Network

If you have to set up your Fiber network on your own, follow the instructions in this section.

  1. On your mobile device or computer, display the list of available networks.

By default, your Setup Wi-Fi network name is GFiberSetup, followed by your street address number or your apartment number or letter.

    • If your address is 123 Main Street, an open network named GFiberSetup123 appears.

    • If your address is 456 Main Street, Apartment 7, an open network named GFiberSetup7 appears.

    • If your address is 789 Main Street, Apartment B, an open network named GFiberSetupB appears.

  2. Select your Setup Wi-Fi network name from the list of available networks.

  3. Open a web browser.

The Google Fiber welcome screen appears.

  4. If you're not automatically directed to the Google Fiber welcome screen, enter Wi-Fi setup.googlefiber.net.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to verify your Google Fiber account and to set up your Fiber home Wi-Fi network.

After creating your private Wi-Fi network, you can connect other devices to it.

What do I need to setup new Wi

All you need is an internet connection from an internet service provider, a modem, a wireless router, and a computer or smartphone.

What is configuration in Wi

Network configuration is the process of setting a network's controls, flow and operation to support the network communication of an organization and/or network owner. This broad term incorporates multiple configuration and setup processes on network hardware, software and other supporting devices and components.

What is the best configuration for Wi

Channel width 20MHz for the 2.4GHz band helps to avoid performance and reliability issues, especially near other Wi-Fi networks and 2.4GHz devices, including Bluetooth devices. Auto or all channel widths for the 5GHz band ensures the best performance and compatibility with all devices.

What are the basic requirements to configure your home network?

When setting up a home network, consider the following hardware components:.
an access device, typically a cable or asymmetric DSL modem;.
a router for directing traffic into and out of your network;.
a switch for connecting wired clients; and..
an access point (AP) for connecting wireless clients..
