Mới đây, nhiều người dùng iPhone 7, 6S, thậm chí iPhone 5S phàn nàn về việc ứng dụng điện thoại liên tục bị đóng băng, khiến họ không thể nghe máy hay thậm chí thực hiện cuộc gọi.

Theo như được biết, lỗi này phát sinh sau khi iPhone của họ cập nhật lên bản iOS 10.1.1. Nhiều người đã thử khởi động lại máy, kể cả khôi phục cài đặt gốc đều không mang lại tác dụng.

Điều đáng chú ý, là ngay cả iPhone đời mới nhất cũng dính phải lỗi này, cụ thể, theo chia sẻ của một thành viên trên rtrang diễn đàn hỗ trợ người dùng từ Apple: "Tôi có một chiếc iPhone 7. Ứng dụng gọi điện thường xuyên bị đóng băng, buộc tôi phải tắt nó thủ công bằng cách nhấn đúp vào màn hình và tắt màn hình đa nhiệm. Phần mềm trên máy là iOS 10.1.1"

Ngay tại Việt Nam, cũng có một số trường hợp iPhone 7 chạy iOS 10.1.1 thường xuyên bị đóng băng ứng dụng.

Về phía Apple, hãng cũng chưa đưa ra bất kì thông tin gì về sự việc trên. Còn phía người dùng cách tốt nhất là không nên cập nhật lên iOS 10.1.1, hoặc nếu đã cài đặt và gặp phải lỗi này thì nên trở về phiên bản 10.1 còn không chờ phiên bản iOS 10.2 ra mắt vào cuối tháng này.

Who Is iOS 10.1.1 For?

iOS 10.1.1 is designed for all iOS 10 compatible devices: iPhone 5 or later, iPad 2 or later, iPad mini 2 or later, iPad Pro range and the 6th generation iPod touch or later.

Getting iOS 10.1.1 is easy. Upgrade prompts should be received automatically but if you haven’t received a prompt yet, it can be triggered manually by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

iOS updates differ in size depending on your device. In this case iOS 10.1.1 weighs in at between 30MB and 70MB.

The Deal Breakers

Despite repeated promises, jailbreaking groups TaiG and Pangu have yet to release a jailbreak for any version of iOS 10. Consequently if you’re hanging back on iOS 9 to enjoy your jailbroken device, it goes without saying that you should not update to iOS 10.1.1.

What about early bugs? So far Apple’s official Support Communities forum is relatively quiet. There are isolated reports of random reboots, missing contacts, a camera flash bug, apps not downloading and a bizarre instance of the Notes app disappearing completely.

Happily none of these threads have gathered momentum to indicate they are widespread issues you should worry about.

So What Do You Get?

The iOS 10.1.1 release notes cut straight to the chase: “This update fixes bugs including an issue where Health data could not be viewed for some users.”

Yes, the big deal here is a cure for users’ missing Apple Health data that was accidentally removed by a bug in iOS 10.1. And the good news is the feedback I’m getting suggests iOS 10.1.1 has been successful. This is important because some are now using Health to track significant health conditions:

So well done Apple, even if there are some lessons to learn. [link]

As for the release notes implying there are other fixes beside the Health update, nothing has been explicitly stated by Apple and I haven’t been able to find any from my investigations to date.

This is both good and bad. Good because it means whatever has been secretively added has not caused any obvious problems, and bad because we have no idea whether what else has been added or if it’s simply Apple displaying some bad grammar.

Apple iOS 10.1.1 Install Verdict: Ignore, Unless You Have The Apple Health Bug

Right now the only reason to install iOS 10.1.1 is if you have been affected by the Apple Health bug that removed all your data. In that instance upgrading is a no brainer.

That aside iOS 10.1.1 appears to do nothing else of value. It has no security updates and no new features Apple is willing to declare. Consequently, while problems with iOS 10.1.1 remain isolated, there is no good reason to take the risk. Especially with Apple’s sketchy reliability record with iOS updates in recent years.

The Road Ahead

After releasing iOS 10.1.1 yesterday, Apple immediately announced the first beta of iOS 10.2. This is a larger update containing new wallpapers and emoji, a camera widget and the ability to choose your default camera mode, plus general “bug fixes”.
