Call of Duty Black Ops II is arguably one of the best Call of Duty games of all time, and it’s nice to see it appearing in the charts again despite being close to 10 years old. –  BHReviews.

Points of Interest.

Single Player Content.

Call of Duty Black Ops II has the best (and longest) campaigns in the franchise’s history with a total of 8 separate endings, and I feel it is unmissable for fans of the franchise and FPS narratives in general.

Renewed Popularity.

In July 2022, Call of Duty Black Ops II was the 7th most purchased game for Xbox One and Xbox Series X in the United Kingdom, while the reason for this revival is currently unknown, ist nice to see so many people playing the classic game for the first time.

Are The Developers Active?

Treyarch is traditionally known as the best Call of Duty studio when it comes to long-term support, and as a general rule, they continue to support their Call of Duty titles long beyond what has come to be expected for the franchise; unfortunately, Covid and the success of Warzone has resulted in older titles such as Call of Duty: Black Ops II losing all admin support, and as of 2022 the title is infested with hackers, cheaters and worse.

I do not expect a developer to support a title almost a decade after launch; however, if that publisher or developer continues to sell that title at full price, I feel players at least have the right to expect moderated servers and occasional bugfixes.

Is Call of Duty Black Ops II Dead?

As of March 2022, the Call of Duty: Black Ops II community hovers around 300 players online (average) on Steam and slightly more on the Xbox, with the in-game counter showing up to 1200 players online at peak times.

Unfortunately, both PC and Xbox lobbies are overrun by hackers, with as many as 90% of all lobbies containing at least one hacker, and while many players wish to return to the glory days of

Without a concerted effort by Treyarch to address the hacker infestation, I feel the community should move on to other titles, as hackers, while annoying on Xbox, have shown they have the ability to gain access to poorly protected PC’s via exploits in the ageing Call of Duty: Black Ops II codebase, which could open many players up top potentially devastating financial and even legal issues if the hacker was to access illegal content while having control of the players PC, such as illegal downloads or pornography.

Does Call of Duty Black Ops II Support Cross-Platform Play?

Unfortunately no, Call of Duty Black Ops II does not support cross-platform multiplayer.

Does Call of Duty Black Ops II Have A Group Finder/Matchmaking?

Yes, Call of Duty Black Ops II supports matchmaking for all modes; however, with so few people playing, matchmaking is unviable for much of the day.

What Is The Community Like?

Call of Duty is and always has been a cesspit filled with toxic 12-year-olds and hostile middle-aged men, and that is unlikely to change anytime soon.

I would not recommend any competitive shooter community to those who feel they would not do well in a sexist, racist, homophobic and overall toxic community, and this is in no way exclusive to Call of Duty, where Activision at least make a “best-effort” to contain the worst of the abuse, and the abusers when reported are dealt with, with over 350k players banned for racist names or behaviour in 2020-2021 alone.

No, Call of Duty Black Ops II does not have a cash shop or in-game purchases of any kind.

Can I Play Call of Duty Black Ops II With A Controller on PC?

Yes, Call of Duty Black Ops II supports Xbox controllers natively; other brands of controllers may require third-party configuration software such as DS4Windows or Joy2Key.

Is There Any Mature Content?

Call of Duty Black Ops II is rated PEGI 18 and contains realistic blood and gore, intense violence,  harsh profanity, suggestive themes, drug references, and horror (zombies mode).

Final Verdict.

I enjoyed playing through the Call of Duty: Black Ops II campaign, and the zombies mode is one of the high points in the franchise; however, at this time, I cannot recommend anyone purchase Call of Duty: Black Ops II when there are so many more active and cheaper alternatives available.
