The coronavirus pandemic is hitting everybody hard, but that doesnt mean we cant stay connected. Kids going on summer breaks will be cooped up in homes, which means theyll have plenty of time to spend doing things they enjoy. There are many games that can be played while staying indoors and connecting through a Zoom call.

1. Rock, Paper, And Scissors

Who hasnt heard of rock, paper, and scissors?

Its one of the classics, and theres a good reason why everyone loves it! It is easy to play and good for those with a short attention span.

How To Play

  • When you fold your fist, itss rock. When you show your palm, its paper, when you use two fingers to make a V and point it towards another player [with your other fingers closed], its scissors.
  • Rock beats scissors. Scissors beats paper. Paper beats rock.
  • Rock draws with rock, and the same goes with both the players coming up with scissor and paper.
  • The game has 3 rounds and whoever wins 2 out of 3 is the winner.

2. Zoom Out

Zoom Out is a game where kids guess what the picture is on their screen. The image you use is high-resolution and itss zoomed into real detail. As time passes, you slowly zoom out and whoever guesses right wins!

How To Play

  • Make sure the images you use are high-res [4k pixels or more].
  • Zoom in really close to any part of the image. A good example would be zooming into the horns of a reindeer or the fur of a panda.
  • Open up the image on your PC and run zoom. Share it in the group and zoom out every 20 to 30 seconds until someone guesses right and they will be the winner.

3. Hangman

Hangman is a classic and a favourite among the list of Zoom games for preschoolers. If the kids guess the word wrong after 5 tries, the hangman hangs!

How To Play

  • Use a digital whiteboard and turn on your screen sharing with the group.
  • Think of two to three words and make a few dashes to represent each.
  • Ask the kids to fill in the blanks one letter at a time.
  • For every wrong guess, you draw the hangmans body parts [like the legs, arms, body, face and the rope].
  • After 5 guesses, if they havent been able to find out the word, complete the hangman drawing and the game will end.

4. 5-Second Game

The 5-second game is super easy to play and requires a bit of brainstorming. Your kids will enjoy this and all it will take are ideas for topics [like ice creams, place names, famous people, etc.].

How To Play

  • Pick a topic. Give a kid 5 seconds to list three items under the topic.
  • Move on to the next kid and repeat this process with all the kids.
  • The game ends when someone cant list any items within the time limit.

5. Quick Draw

Quick Draw is a game that involves drawing doodles in 20 seconds or less. The AI guesses what it is based on the drawings and itss lots of fun!

6. Guess the Sound

Guess the sound is a silly and simple game for kids who are bored with anything thats video-based. It tests their listening skills. You will need a good quality microphone for this one.

  • Turn off the video feed, get close to the microphones and make a sound.
  • Ask the kids to guess what it was.

7. Once Upon a Time

This ones a simple storytelling game that involves continuing the story, one turn at a time.

  • Start with the words once upon a time.
  • A kid continues with: a bear lived in a cottage.
  • And the next kid goes: until it started burning one day.
  • And so on, until everyone gets a turn and the story comes to an end.
  • The story can get crazy but try to keep it comprehensible. Thats what makes it so fun.

8. Charades

Charades is a fun guessing game for the kids. You need an idea for the sentence, phrase, or theme and get the children to guess.

  • Get one kid and tell him the topic/theme.
  • The kid will make movements, gestures, and expressions without saying what it is.
  • The other kids guess and whoever guesses it right, wins!

9. Pictionary

Its a fun game to play and will flex your kids drawing skills. Heres what you have to do.

How To Play

  • Load up the Zoomss whiteboard feature.
  • Tell a kid to draw a picture and set a timer.
  • Let the other players guess.
  • If anyone guesses what the kid is drawing, he/she wins a point.

10. Tic Tac Toe

Tic tac toe is a popular game played by all ages. It involves drawing Xs and Os until one player connects three Xs or Os that are lined up in one direction.

How To Play

  • Make a big white square using the Zoomss whiteboard feature.
  • Make a square with black borders. Now use 4 lines, 2 vertical lines and 2 horizontal lines intersecting each other to make a 3 x 3 format.
  • Let Player 1 draw an X. Player 2 will draw an O. And repeat.
  • Whoever gets three Xss or Oss lined up vertically, horizontally or diagonally, wins the game.

11. Name, Place, Animal, and Thing

This is a simple game that will help your kid work on his knowledge of the world and build his memory skills.

How To Play

  • You pick a letter.
  • A kid has to think of a famous place, name, animal, or thing based on that.
  • Whoever types it into the chat first, wins that round!

12. Heads Up!

Heads up is a classic word game. Itss really simple, we promise!

How To Play

  • Get a kid to hold up a word on his head without looking at it.
  • The other kids in the group call have to describe it, and if he/she guesses the word, they win a point.
  • Repeat this step for as many rounds as you like, and the one with the maximum number of points is the winner.

Psych is a game about finding the real answer out of the fake ones.

How To Play

  • Download the app on your phone/tablet.
  • Open up Zoom and enable screen sharing.

  • In the app, make up fake answers [with one of them being real] to real questions and ask one kid to choose the real one among them.
  • Whoever finds the right answer is the winner.

14. Silly Faces

For those who enjoy humour and good times, this game is a blast!

How To Play

  • Tell everybody to make a silly expression and take a screenshot.
  • Make more and give instructions like sticking your tongue to the elbow, make your nose wiggle, try to roll the eyes, etc.

15. Simon Says

Simon Says is a game where you say something, and if the kids fail to do that, they lose.

How To Play

  • Start the game by saying: Simon says, touch your nose.
  • Proceed with: Simon says, dont touch your ears.
  • Whichever kid does the opposite of what you say loses, while the others win.

16. The ABC Game

The ABC game is similar to the game that involved completing a story, but it comes with a twist.

How To Play

  • Start with Im going to the beach.
  • Player B has to name an object with B and continue the sentence.
  • Player B will say: An apple and a beach blanket.
  • Player C will go on: We visit the coastal guard for swimming lessons and grab crackers along the way.
  • And so on until all the letters of the alphabet are covered.

17. Memory Game

This one involves using a cookie sheet and a bunch of refrigerator magnets with stickers on top.

How To Play

  • Get the sheet and line up the magnets. The magnets will stick to the sheet.

How To Play

  • Ask a kid: Truth or dare.
  • If they choose truth, ask them a question. If they say dare, give them a simple and funny task to perform.
