Hyundai Kona 2023 Hybrid

Thanks to an eagle-eyed South Korean social media user, here is a glimpse of the upcoming all-new 2023 Hyundai Kona.

This photo gives us our first glimpse at the all-new 2023 Hyundai Kona.

Shared on South Korean social media – and reposted by the The Korean Car Blog, the spy photos show what appears to be a small Hyundai SUV with a futuristic design being transported on the back of a truck.

Interestingly, the rear of the 2023 Kona clearly bears resemblance to the front of the current Hyundai Staria people mover – with a single, slim brake light punctuating its rear-end design.

Also visible are strong, 'geometric' bodylines, suggesting its design could also be angular and faceted like the current Hyundai i30 Sedan. Either way, the styling seems to a bold move and in line with the brand's current design direction.

The Korean Car Blog also says it "had the chance to get a picture with the passenger door open" where it claims it saw "the design of the door interior" and that the "Kona prototype was benchmarking against a Volkswagen T-Roc."

It's expected the 2023 Hyundai Kona will continue to offer petrol, hybrid and electric models when it comes to Australia next year.

Overseas reports suggest a global reveal of the all-new Hyundai Kona could happen in early 2023, and a sporty N Line model will remain in the revised line-up with an uprated version of the current 146kW/265Nm 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol engine and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

It remains to be seen whether we'll get a second-generation 2023 Hyundai Kona N, however.

The all-new 2023 Hyundai Kona will be the South Korean brand's second attempt at a small SUV for global markets [excluding the European Bayon and Australian Venue].

It is also expected to sit on a platform shared with other current and future Kia and Hyundai models, from the just-launched 2023 Kia Niro, to the next Kia Seltos.

Will there be a hybrid Hyundai Kona?

The Hyundai Kona Hybrid is a small SUV that comes with an electric motor alongside its petrol engine, so while it doesn't bring the full benefits of the Kona Electric, it's actually the pick of the Kona range for most people.

How much is a Hyundai Kona hybrid?

The 2022 Hyundai Kona starts at $22,375, and AWD adds $1,500 [prices include destination]. It's roughly the same price as a Honda HR-V and about $1,000 less than a base Kia Seltos or Subaru Crosstrek, both of which come with AWD standard; the Crosstrek's base model does, however, use a manual transmission.

Is the Kona hybrid a full hybrid?

The Kona Hybrid is a full- or self-charging hybrid. This means that you don't have to charge the car up, but it can't go any great distance on electric power alone. Still, the official fuel economy is nearly 60mpg, though you may struggle to get near that in everyday driving.
