Often, HP laptops are configured to go into sleep mode, causing data stored in RAM to be temporarily moved to the computer's hard drive when the lid is closed on the device. This is the default behavior of the Windows operating system. When the HP laptop is in sleep mode, an LED on the front of the computer blinks. You can change the settings in the Windows operating so that this light does not blink.
1
Click the "Start" button in the lower left corner of your computer screen.
2
Click "Control Panel" to open a new dialog box. Click the "Hardware and Sound" link.
3
Click on "Change what the power buttons do" under the "Power Options" section.
4
Click the pull-down menu under the "On battery" column and the "When I close the lid" row. Select "Do nothing."
5
Click the pull-down menu under the "Plugged in" column and the "When I close the lid" row. Select "Do nothing."
6
Click "Save Changes" to keep your new configurations. Your HP laptop will no longer go into sleep mode and the LED won't blink when you close the lid.
