Honda dropped the LX trim from the CR-V lineup, making the EX the entry-level model for 2023. This comes with a price increase as Honda has released pricing information for the redesigned compact crossover. The 2023 Honda CR-V will start at $32,355 (all prices include the $1,245 destination charge), up from the $28,045 starting cost of the 2022 CR-V LX.

The entry-level EX trim is available with either front- or all-wheel drive, with the AWD starting at $33,855 over the two-wheel-drive variant. The two trims get their power from Honda’s 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which pairs with a continuously variable transmission. It produces 190 horsepower (141 kilowatts) and 179 pound-feet (242 Newton-meters) of torque.

Trim Price (incl. $1,245 Destination Charge)
EX (2WD) $32,355
EX (AWD) $33,855
Sport (2WD) $33,695
Sport (4WD) $35,195
EX-L (2WD) $35,005
EX-L (4WD) $36,505
Sport Touring (AWD) $39,845

The Sport trim overlaps with the EX, starting at $33,695 for the front-wheel-drive variant. Those who want AWD will have to pay $35,195, with both Sport trims packing a 2.0-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain. The setup produces 204 hp (152 kW) and 247 lb-ft (334 Nm) of torque. The Sport models also receive gloss black exterior accents, rectangular exhaust finishers, and 18-inch wheels. Inside, Honda dresses up the interior with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.

Honda will also offer the CR-V in a pair of EX-L trims. The front-wheel-drive version starts at $35,005, while the AWD commands a $36,505 starting price. Sitting at the top of the CR-V lineup is the Sport Touring trim, an all-wheel-drive hybrid that starts at $39,845. It comes with 19-inch wheels, a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system, and WiFi hotspot capability.

The 2023 Honda CR-V price starts at $32,335. This price includes the destination fee, and the 2022 model begins at $28,045. So, that’s roughly a $4,000 increase. According to AutoBlog, the price hike can be attributed to the fact that the standard LX trim was dropped.

Now the CR-V EX is the entry-level trim. But the 2022 EX model still had a lower price at $30,555. The new CR-V Hybrid starts at $33,695, while the outgoing model costs about $33,255. So that’s much closer.

The Sport EX-L starts at $35,005, and the top-spec Sport Touring Hybrid brings the price up to $39,485. It costs $1,500 to add all-wheel drive across the lineup, but the Sport Touring has standard AWD.

We’re a little surprised by the price increase. Now the Honda CR-V is the most expensive crossover. Rivals such as the Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Tucson, and Kia Sportage start under $30,000 with the destination fee.

The hybrid models are cheaper too. Plus, the RAV4 Hybrid and Tucson Hybrid both have standard AWD.

Does the 2023 CR-V have a better fuel economy?

Along with the official price for the 2023 Honda CR-V, we got official EPA ratings. Surprisingly, the Honda CR-V Hybrid dropped a little. It gets an EPA-estimated 43 mpg in the city and up to 36 mpg on the highway with FWD.

Adding AWD drops these figures to 40 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. The previous hybrid model was only available with AWD and gets about 40 mpg in the city and up to 35 mpg on the highway.

The standard gas-powered engine delivers the same EPA-estimated 28 mpg in the city and up to 34 mpg on the highway. Adding AWD decreases these figures to 27 and 32 mpg.

With the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, you get 190 hp and 179 lb-ft of torque. The hybrid powertrain pairs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors to crank out 204 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque.

Does the 2023 CR-V have enough value?

The 2023 Honda CR-V has a retuned engine for a sportier performance and upgraded suspension components for a more comfortable ride. The AWD system was updated too. So if you liked driving the CR-V before, it should be even better.

Also, the CR-V delivers more passenger and cargo space, and the driver position has been improved. The 7-inch digital gauge cluster provides crucial information.

A 7.0-inch infotainment screen is standard, but you can upgrade to a 9.0-inch unit. Plus, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available.

Standard safety features include forward collision warning, automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control.

The Honda CR-V comes with a long list of standard features. However, we will need to test its comfort and performance to really determine if it’s worth it.
